The Old Nookenburra Hotel, 1962

The Old Nookenburra hotel was built in 1962. Innaloo was originally named “Njookenbooroo“, a local Noongar Aboriginal name for a nearby swamp.

In 1965, “Nookenburra Ned” took pride of place atop the old Nookenburra Hotel on Scarborough Beach Road. He was initially painted white, but underwent many changes of colour and costume over the years, much to the amusement of patrons and passing motorists.

The “Nooky” was an iconic venue famously known for live music but time caught up with the old girl and “The Botanica” was created in 2008. The rest is history and the venue has created its own history and modern following since then.
